My students love going to learning stations or centers! They need a place to keep their learning station materials. They also need a mobile library cart so they can choose books on their level during reading stations.
I teach First Grade at a low income, Title 1 school in Oklahoma.
Almost 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. The students in my class are excited to come to school and learn. I strive to make learning fun and exciting for these young learners.
My Project
My students need a central area to keep all their supplies for learning stations. Being able to know where their supplies are and go to them quickly will keep them busy and maximize their time on task. They also need a mobile leveled library unit with trays. They will be able to go to a station that has library books leveled and sorted by genre.
This will allow them to choose books they can read easily and quickly. They can also choose books on science and social studies topics that will allow them to integrate these subjects into reading and writing. The mobile library will make books easy to get and will allow them the freedom to choose books to take to the various learning stations.
The students in my class look forward to "center time." They are eager to have fun while learning at literacy stations, math stations, writing stations, and word work.
They get to complete art projects that enrich our reading lessons, read the room wearing sunglasses, and practice their spelling words using play-dough, colored pencils, and a variety of other materials. By funding this project my students will have a central area to store supplies and books.
