Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to me for success. As long as they have been in their educational career, they have been classified as a "failure" or "not smart" simply because they have gaps. These students have been passed from year to year to move them on. The cracks continue to grow larger unless someone can come in, see what is missing, and fill that gap.
Intervention is the key to success!
Every day, I strive to find more resources, books, guides, and research-based activities to help my students achieve their goals. Creating effective Dyslexia and Intervention goals is key to helping these struggling learners achieve the equity they deserve.
Every day, my students come to be eager to learn. They struggle, but they try so, so hard. They are always trying to learn more and spend more time in my classroom. My classroom is a judgment zone, and it doesn't matter if you can read, write, spell, or do simple addition. They come with an open mind and great attitudes. Every day, they grow. Growth is the most important thing! If they can show that they've grown, that shows success! Success equals confidence in the classroom.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing my students to create, print, and track their own progress in Dyslexia class. Having high-quality and color materials is key in education. This increases engagement, lets the teacher create bright posters that draw learners in, and aids in the retention of instruction.
A "Printing Press Station" will support creativity, innovation, as well as allow the learner to forge a link between the digital world and the real world.
This will support my Dyslexic students greatly as now they will be able to help create activities that use a multitude of colors.
Students who struggle with Dyslexia struggle with decoding words, identifying phonetic patterns, automaticity of reading, and handwriting. Studies have shown that color draws the eyes naturally from left to right helping greatly with fluency and effective decoding. Simply having the ability to color-code a reading passage would help these learners greatly and give them equity, not just equality.
