My Project
I am currently a literacy teacher. I help students and staff in grades pre-k to fifth grade with all things literacy!
I teach at a low socioeconomic school, where over 80% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
It is very important for my students to have access to a wide variety of books to enrich their learning experience. Most of our students do not have a large at-home library, so school is where they get expose to a variety of text. I want to provide my students a variety of genres and topics of interest to promote reading and get them excited to read independently.
It's battle time! We are preparing for our Battle of the Books, but we need your help! In order for the classes to compete in Battle of the Books, we need a set of books to read! These books will benefit grades 3-5.
Our school and county hosts a Battle of the Books competition. Each team is comprised of students who have read some, if not all, of the 15 books on the Sunshine List. We are encouraging all of our students in grades 3-5 to read some of the books, so they can be eligible to compete in the battle. The set of books will be available to students and teachers to prepare for the book battle. The students can independently read the books and the teachers can read the books to their whole class.
I am hoping that if a child likes a specific book and author, they will read other books by the same author. The books will also help students read a variety of genres and story structures. Your donation will help inspire many students to read for pleasure and learn in the process. Thank you for your donation!
