My Students
Do you remember what it was like when you first learned how to read? The majority of my students have not quite mastered the adequate foundation needed in order to even begin to learn to read.
I work for a large school district that has recently taken on another school district in North Houston.
The goal is to give these underprivileged students a chance at learning in a fun and safe environment. I teach First Grade to 54 socio-economically disadvantaged students.
My Project
I am ordering various Reading activities that will help guide my students on their path to learning how to read. In order to begin reading students need to know to identify the alphabet letters and sounds. They also have to know the everyday words, sight words, that show up in every type of reading passage. These words do not meet a particular pattern, so the students must know them by sight. I also do not have a big classroom library, so the books I ordered are easy enough, yet challenging enough to help them build confidence in reading.
Being given the opportunity to create this project is so important to me because my students are lacking in every area when it comes to reading.
They need the appropriate materials to get started.
