Help me give my students needed school supplies that they won't have otherwise due to their financial need. These coloring utensils, glue, backpacks, and folders are needed for all of their classes!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the community outreach coordinator at my school and we are located in a disadvantaged minority neighborhood with a majority of our students in high need that will start the school year without school supplies.
For the third year, I am organizing a school supply tour for our teachers to help all students in our neighborhood that are in need to come and receive a backpack and supplies at our school supply tour to start the school year off right!
This event has made a huge difference for these students and our community.
These students rely on our school supply tour to have the necessary items that will make their school year successful. This has been shown to make a huge difference for disadvantaged students to buy-in to school and feel comfortable starting the year.
My Project
These essential school supplies are the bare minimum of what students are required to have to start the school year. Our school is in a very disadvantaged area and the majority of our students are high need and minorities that do not have the ability to procure these needed materials before school starts. Students that start the year without supplies are shown to be more likely to be disengaged and resist being involved in instruction.
Our goal is to allow our needy students in our school's community have the necessary school gear to start the year prepared with the minimum supplies that can allow for them to have a better chance at a positive school year experience.
We use our school supply tour to build a community around our school and help students get excited about the coming year.
These school supplies are supplied to students that truly need them, so without your help they may not have what they need to start the year.
