Kindergarten students are the best writers!
Hi! I teach Kindergarten at a Focus school in North Carolina. Being a Focus school, many of our children lack sufficient supplies and are in high-need of help and support. In my Kindergarten classroom, I teach all subjects including writing.
Writing is such a challenge for Kindergarten students. It also proves to be just as much as a challenge for me, the teacher. But, these students have the best stories to tell. I want to provide my students with great supplies and a readiness of supplies that their stories can be put down on paper and put together to create books. I don't have these supplies in my classroom, but with this grant, I will be able to better encourage the writing process.
I would need a pencil sharpener for the classroom. This will keep students from stopping when they break a pencil. Before we only had one pencil sharpener for 5 Kindergarten classrooms. I would also need clipboards in order for my students to walk around the room and write environmental print. Once the students write their stories, I would then use the spirals and the binding machine to create their own personal book. The chart paper would be used during interactive writing. Interactive writing will help generate ideas for students to write about.
My students are aspiring authors. Who knows, I may have the next Dr. Seuss in my classroom? I need to be able to provide my students with the materials and support to foster this love of writing. I know that with these supplies, that love will flourish.
