My Students
My students are first graders on the Northside of Richmond, Virginia at a Title I school. They spent their kindergarten year completely virtual so this is their first year in a classroom!
They come to school ready to learn and find out the answers to questions they wonder about every day.
They're passionate about all things animals and science, curious about history, and ready to take on the challenges of math and reading head-on.
My Project
I am about to enter into a school year with a bunch of first-graders who spent their first year of school - in kindergarten - on a computer. This is going to be a major change for them as they enter into the classroom for the first time and I want to make sure that they are completely prepared to start off the year on the right foot. With the COVID still a part of our every day lives, I am stepping up to make sure that no parents or caregivers have to worry about running to the stores to get supplies to make sure that their student is ready to learn. No child should have to feel insecure that they don't have what their fellow classmate has and put that extra pressure onto an already brand new experience for them. I want to be able to make sure every child in my classroom walks in and has what they need with at least the basics like crayons, pencils, notebooks and folders.
