Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As diverse students with disabilities, it is important that students are able to come to school with the basic essentials needed to be ready to learn.
My students are energetic and fun inner-city high school students. My students have a range of disabilities including learning disabilities, visual impairments, autism and intellectual disabilities. A majority of them are also English Language Learners. My students show greater enthusiasm when they have a clean and safe learning environment and when they are not hungry.
My school is located in a large, urban city. Of our 3,100 students, 94% are low-income, 10% of the students have disabilities, and 8% are English Language Learners. More than 75% of my particular students are low-income, have disabilities and/or are English Language Learners. I teach my students not to let their ethnicity, personal home situations, English Language Learner status or disabilities hinder their academic or social-emotional growth.
My Project
My students need to restock the snacks including granola bars, fruit snacks, and popcorn. I am also requesting personal care items (travel kits that contain everything they may need) and clothing for the cooling weather to continue the school year with confidence. I am adding basic supplies as their beginning of the year supplies need replenishing and many students can't afford new ones. This project allows students to have access to basic personal care items, supplies and snacks to get them through the school day. Many students leave their homes before 7:00 a.m. and return home after 5:00 p.m. due to lengthy bus or public transportation rides and participation in after school programs. It is important for students to have essential personal care and dietary items to support their energy and motivation throughout the day.
Students deserve to have appropriate snacks, supplies, clothing and personal hygiene items to get them through the day.
Most of my students are from low-income families and often times don't have the resources they need at home. Many times they say they are hungry or don't have a personal care item available; with this project I will readily be able to provide these resources for them. By having their hunger and personal hygiene needs met through being able to have access to basic supplies, students are more likely to feel confident and prepared to put in their best effort throughout the day.
