My Project
For the past two years, I have taken a break from teaching to care for my mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer's. Now, after a bit of rest, I'm headed back to a new classroom in a new district! Exciting as this new journey is, as you can imagine, it comes with a substantial amount of work, not the least of which is preparing my classroom and ensuring that my students have everything they need to be successful.
These days, many districts are making tough budgetary decisions.
When I asked about our budget for things like large scale printing (handouts, posters, etc...), a rather candid colleague turned to me and said, "What budget?" Shortly after that, I was told I would get a small "starter" supply of pencils, pens, and other materials, but I was left feeling that additional materials might not always be available. And, so, now I come to DonorsChoose to ask for assistance. The vast majority of this project centers on the basics, things that my students may not necessarily have but will definitely need: pencils, pens, paper and notebooks for their creative writing; post-its and notecards for notation; dry erase markers for board work and mapping of ideas; markers and poster paper for anchor charts and demonstration of concepts; a laminator to preserve excellent student examples; binders and folders to store and organize work. The supplies I've requested are, thankfully, without a shelf life; they will be useful this year, the year after, and the year after. They have the potential to provide longitudinal impact for relatively low cost. I know school districts are not the only organizations tightening their belts, and that teachers and students are not the only individuals in need. Still, I ask for your consideration, and I thank you for your help.
