My Project
There is a big change happening in my classroom this year. For the past 7 years, I was a self-contained teacher for students in grades 3-5. This year, I will be responsible for reading intervention for grades K-2. Many of the items that were used in my classroom during those seven years are either a bit too big for my new students. Or, they are worn out and used. I want to be able to start over in a new school with new and welcoming supplies to encourage reading for some of the youngest learners in the building.
I believe that a reading nook will be an inviting space designated to encourage the love of reading.
Even as an adult, I love to curl up to a good book every now and then. Students will be able to leave guided lessons with me and head over to the nook to continue with reading and to complete reading activities. To provide a little decoration to the area, I chose a small reading carpet as well as a few bookshelves for students to be able to select their books for reading.
Instead of directly sitting on the floor, students will have the option of using bean bags to make their experience cozier. In the event of a group or paired reading, students will be able to choose comfort and a good book to reflect on during reading intervention time. We are also in need of a replacement microwave oven. The microwave oven that we had in the classroom is beyond repair and it is used on student celebration days, science lesson days, as well as making popcorn on movie days!
