My Project

In my high school English classroom, I encourage my students to showcase their specific skills and talents through project-based learning, STEM activities weaved into our curriculum, and daily classroom lessons aimed to engage, challenge, and encourage creativity. Therefore, my students tend to go through a lot of basic consumable classroom items, such as glue, markers, highlighters, etc. to demonstrate their learning in unique ways.

Many of the students in my small, rural Kansas school come from low-income households, so purchasing normal classroom materials is not a priority for my high schoolers.

I typically provide these types of classroom materials for my students to use as needed, however, it can be rather expensive throughout the school year. Not only do I find joy in being able to meet their needs in this way, but this simple service goes a long way in building relationships with students because they feel comfortable coming to my classroom to find what they need. Additionally, the classroom environment helps encourage my students to enjoy being present. Items such as visual boards, decorative elements, and motivational posters help create a supportive and loving classroom where my students can thrive. My goal through this project is to start our school year with the basic consumable classroom materials my students utilize the most and to utilize visual items to motivate them in my classroom.
