Help me give my students a great start to a new school year. We are a title one school so most of my students aren't able to come to school with the items they need to succeed.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I would love to have my title one students next year to walk in ready to learn with their supplies sitting on their desks along with a beginning of the year treat. I included dry erase markers because my students love to write on their desks and easily erase it once they make a mistake. I love being able to walk around to their desks and see if they have grasp the concept being taught. We use the folders to organize their projects that they research to present to the class and throughout the school year.
The majority of my students are African American from low social economic backgrounds.
They are unable to provide most of the school supplies that they need to have on a daily basis. Most years I provide their supplies out of my own pocket which has been hard this year because of my husband's health concerns.
In my class, I love for them to work together in teams to solve math problems, research projects from how to make something, inspiring inventors, the pros and cons of video games, and to the most important how we need to work as a successful team. My goal as an educator is to teach my students that they can learn not by me telling them the answer but for them to teach themselves how to find the answer by working together to reach a common goal but to do that I need them to have the basic supplies.
My student, JayLinn just wrote this-"You try to inspire us by teaching us new things. You always encourage and motivate us to learn by being creative, solving problem in different ways, be confident, and always learn new things." Please help me to inspire more students like her.
