My third graders live in a rural valley surrounded by the beautiful Bitterroot Mountains of Montana. Our town is several miles from surrounding towns, which tends to isolate our neighborhood children.
My third-grade students are kind and curious beings learning how to navigate around numbers, meanings of words, rhythms, and friendships.
Our school is a K-12 campus with multiple schools (buildings) housing several grade levels. I love that my students see the different ages of learners as they attend school each day!
My Project
Earlier this year, I was able to have a DC project funded for protein bars. I did not know the impact it would have on my students. First, I was not sure if they would like protein bars. I found a tasty bar that has 20 grams of protein.
Studies show that children need at least 10 grams of protein daily before 10:00 am each day to sufficiently fuel their bodies for learning.
Little did I know, my students were so happy to be able to have a mid-morning snack whenever they needed one. My supply of bars were completely gone by the middle of October.
