My class of first graders are standout learners. They have a desire to learn, explore the world around them and find their greatness. They want those around them, especially their families and friends, to see their greatness also. My class lives in an area prone to violence and poverty.
I cannot control their lives outside of the classroom, but I can control their experience during the school day.
My students like to read and we emphasize the need to read every day. They also love to write, draw and even share what they are learning and I try to incorporate different activities as often as possible. By doing this in a positive way, I hope to inspire my learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
Giving my students the ability to have everything ready for them at the beginning of the year helps them feel ready for learning. I can only hope they are given the materials needed for the complete year without worries. Having pencils, notebooks, colored pencils, pencil pouches and folders helps them stay organized and prepared to learn. Theses are materials they will use every day.
It is my job to make students feel welcome and prepared while they learn.
With your help I can make that happen. Students should be able to come to school stress free, not worrying that they don't have what is needed in First grade. Learning should not create stress, but interest, excitement and perseverance to be the best version of themselves.
