Starting My Student's Year With a Full Set of Supplies

My Students
Every single day my students use a wide range of supplies, but none more than pencils, erasers, highlighters, and dry erase markers. We learn from our mistakes and my students take that to heart and go through a ton of erasers each year. Dry erase markers are great for quick checks of concepts.
My students come from an impoverished area.
We have a high free and reduced lunch population at our school. Each year I've gotten fewer and fewer supplies from my students on the first day of school. The last thing I want my students to have to worry about is if they are going to be able to have the basic tools necessary to be successful students. They have enough to worry about in their lives without thinking about supplying my classroom with basic necessities.
My Project
My students are going to use pencils every day to take notes, practice their skills, and complete projects and tests. I am a firm believer that we learn from our mistakes and nothing corrects a mistake quite like an eraser. My kids go through a plethora of erasers each year as they continue to make mistakes and learn. I constantly am telling my students to go through a text and mark where they find their answers. They use the highlighters for that and we go through a lot each year. I think dry erase markers are so much fun for the kids because they can write on the desks with them. We also do a lot of quick checks with personal white boards and markers. Finally, I use the dry erase markers every day when I'm working with kids for my small group math lessons. They run out quickly so I need a large supply of them.
The project is going to make a difference because it will help start the year off right for my students.
They will walk into class and see that they don't have to worry about supplies for the entire year. That will relieve a lot of the pressure they feel to have to help me supply the classroom. Anything we can do to help these kids keep their minds on education is a big plus.
