My Students

I am excited to have the opportunity to open a new primary low-incidence cluster classroom, and currently I have 7 students in kindergarten and first grade. My students have Autism, as well as cognitive disabilities.

I have yet to meet my students, but I know they are going to be a special group.

I want to make sure that I can provide them the best educational experience, complete with the educational, sensory, and adaptive tools they will need.

My students struggle with sitting still, fine motor skills, and completing work independently. Some of the things that can help them include wiggle cushions, loop scissors, dry erase teaching station for small groups, and a dry erase mat with primary lines to show students how to properly form letters on the lines.

My Project

Since there has never been a cluster classroom at my school, we don’t have any sensory items. The first item on my list is wiggle cushions to allow flexible seating, and to help my little ones to wiggle in their seats, while getting the sensory input that they need.

I want my students to be able to work independently, but many of them struggle with the fine motor skills to properly grasp a scissors.

Loop scissors allow students to be able to cut more independently, and hand over hand assistance.

Our classroom currently does not have a dry erase board, so one of the items I want to get my students is a magnetic dry erase board with primary writing lines that I can place on my chalk board. This will allow students to come to the board and practice writing things such as the day of the week, their name, sight words etc.

Finally, since most of my instruction is in small groups, I am asking for a small group dry erase easel.
