Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I am switching school districts, which means I am starting fresh in a new space! I have spent the last four years collecting the perfect materials and creating the most welcoming space possible for my students. Now that I have started to set up my new office/classroom, there are a few basics I am needing to help create that same welcoming and cozy feeling.
Kids are at their most regulated when they are in an environment that makes them feel safe.
In this project, I am asking for things like office chairs for my desk and group table, a large area rug, a full sized mirror, carpet tiles, and frames and command strips. Having a soft rug to sit on, play games on, etc. will help my space feel homey and safe for my students. The mirror will be used for students to practice identifying emotions and calm bodies. I plan to use the carpet tiles to create a "feeling wall" where various feelings will be velcroed. The frames will be used to display encouraging and accepting posters throughout the room to promote positivity and a growth mindset. I am also asking for a portable CD player and headphones, as I inherited several picture books with CD read alongs! I plan to create an audio book station where students can listen to and follow along with a picture book as a self-regulation strategy. Lastly, I am asking for a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card. Teachers Pay Teachers has an abundance of high quality resources made by educators for educators. I always find myself turning to TPT when looking for engaging materials!
