My Project

A young student's mind is always growing, thinking, and exploring. The first grade scholars who visit my media center every morning before the school day begins are extremely curious and love to share their insights about life. I currently don't have a Makerspace in my media center, as so many other schools do. So, this variety of different types of building blocks would help me get a Maker Space started and it would also be a wonderful tool to help these young minds explore their creativity and scientific thinking.

I wish to provide my students with different types of building blocks to allow them to engage in conversations of creativity and inventiveness as they wait for their official school day to begin.

In this day and age, so much of student learning takes place on tablets and computers and does not allow for the use of manipulatives to engage in actually exploring what they are learning. Rather than simply showing videos every morning, I would like to use these building blocks to spark my students' imagination as they work to build and share with their peers all about the creative structures they have created.
