Special needs students hold a special place in my heart. The joy on their faces when they are able to accomplish even the smallest task, ignites a fire inside me. My classroom is full of large personalities and different disabilities from non-verbal to very verbal and active.
The challenge we face daily is appealing to each of their learning styles and skill base.
The drive for success, is in each of these wonderful students. I am so excited for another school year to continue to watch them grow.
My Project
In a Foundational Learning classroom, our students are learning to navigate the school environment to the best of their abilities. We are requesting organizers to keep visual schedule pieces organized and rolling stools to make it easier for teachers and assistants to move between students.
Sensory processing overwhelms the student and makes it difficult to absorb what is important.
The maracas, liquid activity mats, chewy necklaces and noise canceling headphones will help make the students as successful as possible.
Our students are also very reliant on visuals, social stories and schedules. The personal laminator and sleeves will allow us to make visuals that will be able to withstand what students put them through.
