This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our elementary is in a rural area in which we have communities and even some farms within the school zone. I have many students within my own classroom who come from families who live in multi-family homes or with grandparents. Some students are considered ESOL, which means they came to us not knowing, or with little knowledge, of the English language including students displaced from Hurricanes. Our school is a Title I school meaning that a majority of our students are on the free or reduced-price lunch program.
My Project
With this project, my partner teacher and I will be able to allow two classes to start on the right foot to start their 5th Grade school year. One class will begin the year digital and the second class with be face-to-face.
We want to give our students a SAFE start to a FANTASTIC school year.
Our goal is to give each child their own materials. Each child will get their own personalized water bottle, clipboard, and dry erase eraser. The brown bags will ensure that they have somewhere to place their masks when they go to eat lunch. The binder clips will help with keeping backpacks on the back of a student's chair as they sit in their seats. The Bouncy Bands will give them a chance to 'take off the edge' without disturbing classmates. The Water Bottle Pump will allow me to give the students a chance to fill their water bottles with safe water from 5-gallon water jugs. Lastly, the thermometer will give us a way to ensure everyone is healthy as they come into the room.
