This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a school where ninety percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are aged three to five years old, and all have Individualized Education Plans. My students are curious, full of energy and life, and always eager to learn! They love learning new skills and are proud of their own successes and those of their peers. My ultimate goal is to give my students a positive learning experience in a school setting, setting the foundation for a love of learning and a love of school.

Students learn best through hands-on experiences and through the process rather than always having to produce a product.

We are a classroom family learning patience, empathy, and acceptance for everyone.

My Project

We try to keep our supply lists affordable for families and try to list items that each student will use individually. We added headphones to our list so students will not have to share. Lanyards will be used instead of students using the keypad in the cafeteria. Many students bring supplies but having some extra supplies for students who do not will enable everyone to have the necessary items in class. Binders are used to collect artwork and to use a portfolio. Parents receive the binder at the end of the year and it becomes a keepsake of their student's year at school as well as to show progress from the beginning to the end of the year. We use LOTS of glue in PreK and having some extra to refill their individual bottles will be helpful. I laminate visual materials for durability for some of my students who need visual schedules or visuals to use for communication and have added lamination paper to my list.

This past school year proved to be interesting and forced us to become creative in providing students with the supplies needed.

Many teachers including myself wrote grants and projects for supplies, we purchased with our own money and we also received donations of supplies from local donations. I am hoping to be able to provide some assistance to families and alleviate some of the stress of back-to-school shopping as sending your little one off to school for the first time is stressful enough.
