Help me give my students new whiteboards for instructional reading group time in replace of the stained, ruined, and "really-loved" old ones.
Second graders are such an exquisite group of kids! They are full of energy and enthusiasm. I am lucky enough to spend the school year teaching these young people from our financially-limited, rural community. More than half of the school's student population qualify for Title I services to assist in academics. The student body is scattered with special needs students as well as English language learners. Opportunities that city-folk have are extremely limited in this peaceful country setting.
My students are eager to learn and have a desire to explore despite their hardships, shortcomings, and quiet lifestyles.
Getting this amazing group of seven and eight year olds to focus and comprehend often takes creativity from the teacher! I graciously ask for your help in educating my students so they may be successful in our classroom and in the future.
My Project
Schools rule... And so do school supplies... Especially new ones that are eye-catching, shining brightly, and waiting to be used. That’s why quality school supplies are so essential in keeping students excited about their work in the classroom
Because today's literacy is hands-on and requires specific supplies for instruction, these new, shiny whiteboards will enhance motivation and excitement.
Imagine this... you come to the reading table ready to read the brand new books the teacher has set out. But first, you must use a whiteboard to make words with magnetic letters and then print the words on the whiteboard. The teacher hands you some nice new magnetic letters, a shiny new Expo marker, and a brand new bright green whiteboard eraser. Then, the teacher hands you the magnetic white board. It is a white board that has gouges and scratches. It has a corner that has been cracked off. The "white" board is more like a "gray" board from all the use over the years. Your excitement lessens as you realize you have to use all your new supplies on the outdated and over-used whiteboard.
Without quality tools, teachers cannot keep the overall climate and attitude of the classroom excited about school and learning. When children don't have what is needed for school, they don't give their all. sFor a teacher, it is agonizing to watch as students try to print their letters correctly while trying to avoid the large indents and holes on their whiteboards. It's painful to wait while students erase their current work and rewrite just so to avoid divots and missing cracked edges. School is more than a building and a teacher. It is an attitude, an excitement, that is the key to success.
