it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a proud Kindergarten to Second grade self-contained ASD teacher. I love to interact with these fantastic and enthusiastic kids while trying to improve their life skills. My class is comprised of 10 autistic, and 2 students with developmental delay diagnostic. To target their individual needs, they follow a modified curriculum. My ASD students do not develop active spoken language. Others have echolalia, which causes them to repeat words or phrases over and over. They often have difficulty understanding the nonverbal aspects of communications, such as social cues, and body language. My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, and all of them need intervention strategies for struggling readers. Definitely, every day they come into the classroom and amaze me with what they can learn and achieve.
To be honest, they are facing several challenges daily, but are always excited to learn and try new things.
I feel blessed to get to work with such a great group of students and they will be blessed with your help as well.
My Project
The Big Books center with large print and colorful illustrations will allow the class to share good stories, memorable life experiences, and exciting books. Theses Big Books will be beneficial for my struggling readers to choose books based on their interests and skills. Big books are a fun way to motivate my enthusiastic kindergarteners to want to read and to create an exciting way for them to experience books for the first time.
Indeed, this Big Books center will helps my young students by making reading easier for those who are struggling readers with Learning Disabilities.
During story time, Big Books will enrich oral language development through model reading, and through the meaningful teaching of skills within the context and therefore, inspire new learning experiences.
