This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This last school year my students absolutely loved reading the Magic Tree House series. I was unsure as I was new to the grade. So, I purchased the first book and some sets for my students. And they became obsessed. I had to have some parents purchase more and only some had the books. I want to start the year with every child having all 4 books. No child should be left out of great adventures.
Starting day one of the school year, I want to introduce every student to this fun book series and get them hooked and motivated to read.
Our textbooks are mostly Informational text and not fantasy. My students every chance they took, went to the library and got the next book. They could so relate to the characters and each topic made them more and more intrigued. Not only did it help the fluency and imagination, but these books also really helped teach the children to read with feeling and dialogue. The students quickly went through the first five books I purchased for them. We read these whole group to supplement our reading program.
My goal for the 2025-2026 school year is to really help continue using fantasy to help the children reduce anxiety. I have never seen so much anxiety in children as this year. Kids need to be kids again and learn to be creative and have adventures.
