This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I want my students to look forward to coming to school every day, and what better way to do it than to start the morning off on the right foot? Kids need to be able to come into the classroom and get their gears turning, this is why I am making the switch to using morning bins.
Using morning bins that are STEM oriented will allow students to use critical thinking, communication, and creative skills.
Students will have the chance to collaborate with their peers and work with others building community within our classroom.
Not only do I want to start the morning off on the right foot for my students, but I want to keep it going all day. Students will be able to use the two bean bag chairs during centers. They can also use the whisper phones to engage more when reading independently.
Lastly, let’s be honest, learning can be frustrating. When a student is getting upset and needs a break, they can utilize the calming corner stocked with fidgets, sensory timers, and a book of feelings to help them identify and regulate their emotions.
My students deserve to start their learning on the right foot and to keep the momentum going because they have the potential to be successful. I may not always know what my students'’ lives look like outside of school, but I can make sure that they feel loved, welcomed, and wanted every time they step foot into my classroom.
