Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The future math innovators I teach are typical teenagers who have unbelievable potential. Many of my students are economically disadvantaged learners who reside in single parent homes or they are being raised by their extended families. My class structure is not differentiated enough to tap into the individual strengths of my learners. Currently, our high school houses about 4,000 students with enough electronic devices for about 2500 students. The requested technology would benefit all of my problem-solvers by supporting them as they explore mathematical concepts in small groups and instructions centered around their learning styles. Forty percent do not have access to personal devices. The lack of such technology at home and in the classroom place my students at a disadvantage when competing in this technological society. Some of my learners are even unable to navigate basic computer skills to manage in everyday life due to the shortage of resources. All of my students deserve the security of knowing they can flourish and compete with their peers.
My Project
All students will use these two Dell Chromebooks and Logitech keyboards to investigate math concepts that are traditional hard to see. They can save their collaborative efforts with absent groups members.
They can explore mathematics concepts using online math/science websites and apps that may not function correctly on cell phones or concepts lost with the bland pencil and paper.
For example, they can explore 3D models without the draw back of trying to draw models with little background in isometric view. They will collaborate in teams using Google Suites, its extension, and padlet to resolve math challenges, as well as share responses to their investigations of real world problems current and future Earth dilemmas.
