My Project

As a teacher, I have experienced the high energy level of students throughout the years. Many students come into the classroom and need a safe and distraction free way to let out their energy while they are learning. Second grade students, especially, need the opportunity to let out some wiggles while listening to a lesson or participating in an activity. I would like to create a learning environment full of active, enthusiastic, engaged learners by offering flexible seating which encourages movement in my classroom. By providing various seating options, my students will have the opportunity to choose the best style of seating to meet their individual needs.

Lack of movement can cause a decrease in attention, fatigue, and lack of concentration in students.

The ability to move around will help my students to be more alert and focused throughout the day. Flexible seating will allow my students to sit, wobble, or balance in a way that is most beneficial to them as a learner. The items I chose: stability cushions, wobble stools, balance balls, and chair bands, will help create a more comfortable environment that will meet the needs of all of my students this year, and in years to come.

Flexible seating will also help increase my students' motivation and level of engagement, which will lead to higher academic performance in my classroom. These flexible seating options will provide all students the sensory input they may need to increase learning and engagement.

I would like each one of my students to be able to choose the type of seating that works best for their learning style. By providing the opportunity for choice, my students will be more enthusiastic and actively engaged while learning in my classroom!
