This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We live in such a phenomenal day and age, when our knowledge of all things great and small is growing at such a rapid pace...because of science! This is the golden age of astronomy! The Cassini probe burning up in the atmosphere of Saturn! The Great American Eclipse bringing us together to watch the sun!
I teach Astronomy and general science to a majority of students who are labeled economically disadvantaged and "at-risk", but with your help the only thing my students are going to be "at-risk" of is gonna be falling in love with science!
That is my mission. Let's do this!
My Project
Teaching astronomy in a classroom can be a great challenge. Kids have a difficult time visualizing such distant objects. In regards to the sun, imagine studying something that you are also told not to look at! That is where the Coronado Personal Telescope comes in.
My astronomy students will be able to observe the sun without burning their eyes out!
Sun phenomenon is one of the more fascinating aspects of astronomy. Galileo's drawings of sunspots still exist today. My students will be able to safely replicate his studies, with the use of the Coronado telescope. Whereas we currently have no method for making daily solar observations, we will be able begin tracking daily activity with the ease of tracking lunar phases.
My class doesn't have an observatory, so I am always searching for a way to make Astronomy relevant. Help me bring our star to my students.
