My Students
Our elementary students live in a rural community in South Carolina. Our Title I school has 420 students from 4K through sixth grade. We strive to create active and fun learning environments in our classrooms.
"Which book do you recommend for me next?" It makes me so happy to hear our students asking for new books to read and sharing their experiences through reading.
Witnessing their joy for reading is thrilling as a Reading Coach. Our school is rich with diverse students who appreciate a culture of learning. We have a wide variety of academic levels, with students on every level.
Students need the opportunity to choose independent reading selections that interest them. They need diverse book selections that they can connect to, but can also teach them about the world around them.
My Project
A rich and diverse library will provide opportunities for our students to get lost in reading. In order to enjoy reading students need more choices, more challenges, and access to books. I want our school to be a place of discovery and engagement. We teach a wide variety of students, and I really want to give students the opportunity to explore new books.
Starbooks Cafe will give students the opportunity to "sample" new books and build a love for reading.
Our students will benefit from a library that has books for every reader. Finding a love for books can be as easy as finding the right book, so I want to provide access for our students to a wide variety of texts. I believe that all people love a great story, and this project could help my students find their favorite.
