This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students that I work with come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood and are predominantly working on acquiring their second language. My students are faced with several life challenges both in and out of the classroom every single day.

Teachers at our school work hard every day to keep the atmosphere full of fun, positiveness, and safely learning with creative and meaningful experiences.

Our school is an energetic group of students who need hands-on, real world experiences. I want them to be successful in all aspects of life.

My Project

Current research has shown that using a stand-up table is directly tied to increased engagement, healthier weight, and improved self-esteem. Students in my classroom are very high energy and love being engaged in learning. A few of the students struggle with ADHD and already stand most of the day. This table will allow them to have a useful working space that will not hinder their productivity or have them hunching over a table throughout the day.

Standing empowers the student, leads to eye to eye contact with the teacher and reduces requests to leave the room simply to be able to move and stretch their legs.

A stand-up table will offer fewer classroom distractions, reduce behavioral disturbances, and improve overall collaboration. No more constant interruptions from fidgeting students requesting bathroom breaks just to get their blood flowing.
