My Students

This year, I am one of the English teachers teaching 9th grade ELA in an inner city high school. I teach about 45 students, and I love them dearly. They each have such unique personalities and humors that they bring into my classroom. Many of them are quiet but with the biggest hearts you'll ever meet. The ones that aren't quiet you can hear coming down the hall from a mile away.

Even in a pandemic, I count myself as one of the lucky teachers that got a good portion of students to attend their classes every day.

They kept me involved in their lives, and they were always so polite whenever they joined or left my classroom for the day. I even still have my previous year's students popping in to say hi once a week!

"Miss, I'm going to stop by your classroom next year; you can count on it!"

My Project

I teach a lot of students across the spectrum of abilities, and many of my students are still finding their footing in our classroom. Most of my students were completely virtual last year, and they are still transitioning into coming to school every day, for every class, for a full week.

In one class in particular, I have a handful of kids who need to get up and walk around.

They were so used to moving around their room during classes last year that staying seated for a lengthy period of time is challenging.

Getting standing desks would allow my students freedom of movement while also engaging in the lesson. I want to try to rein in the energy of my class so students aren't just walking to and fro whenever they want to. Providing the option of two standing desks would allow my future athletes a chance to stretch and walk in place while also completing their lesson in class.
