My Students

Every child that enters my classroom has unique needs. It is my responsibility to meet their needs. I do this by using a variety of teaching styles. I often base my lessons around movement. I am a firm believer that students need to move in order to focus their mental energy on their academics.

My students are amazing.

I am blessed to teach children from all different races and backgrounds. Several of my kids have military parents, some are on free and reduced lunch, some have tough situations at home and some have a typical home life. One thing all of my students have in common is they love to be engaged in their learning. I spend hours researching and planning for the most engaging and goal specific lessons to deliver to my students.

My Project

I am requesting one stand up desk for my classroom. I've read several articles about the benefits of students standing up while they learn. Nine and ten year old children have a hard time sitting in a chair all day. If I receive this stand up desk, I will allow my students to use it and then decide if it is something that will help their daily learning. I have two specific students I feel will benefit from the standing desk. They have an ADHD diagnosis and have an extremely hard time sitting for extended periods of time. I believe if they have the option to stand their learning will increase.

Having a standing desk in my classroom will benefit the kids who have difficulty sitting for extended periods of time.

Research is showing that children who have standing desks have a 25% increase on being "on-task". I like to use innovative ways to increase student learning in my classroom. I truly believe a standing desk will give some of my students the chance to learn more without being uncomfortable from sitting in a chair.
