My public school is in a larger metropolitan area with an enrollment of approximately 550 students in a Pre K through fifth grade setting. I am a special education teacher who works within the general education classroom to support learners in reaching their potential. Many students benefit from having workspace or seating options such as standing desks, ball chairs, or clipboards.
I work with students in grades three through fifth who are English Language Learners and also receive special education services for academic and behavioral needs.
A future goal would be to have a minimum of one standing desk in all of the classrooms that I support. I currently work in four environments, but am setting my initial goal at two desks and will hope to add additional desks in the future.
My Project
Standing desks can be placed in various spots in the classroom and utilized as workstations for small group cooperative work. Cooperative learning and work are critical for student success. Standing desks allow students to work together in a circle type setting where all can be engaged and participate in discussion or work.
Standing desks are great work space options for students who need the flexibility to move as they work.
Standing desks keep students engaged in lesson presentations and independent work. Utilized as group work spaces or independent learner spaces, standing desks are a space saving tool no classroom should be without.
