This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students from Chula Vista, California are part of an elementary school district that is bringing back the arts in a huge way. This is a Title I school where 75% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

Our orchestra students showed grit during the spring quarantine by practicing at home through video lessons.

This group of student-musicians have been playing violin, viola or cello for 1-2 years. About half of these musicians have special needs.

My Project

This project is intended to provide music and music stands for students to use at home. These musicians have been enrolled in orchestra for 1-2 years. The books at appropriate levels to continue challenging students to excel at mastering their instruments during quarantine.

During the quarantine our orchestra is not able to meet in person; students need to have their own music stands and sheet music in order to learn at home.

Instruction, for the time being, will be conducted virtually with twice-weekly in small group lessons and studio classes.

These students have demonstrated a love for music through their participation in orchestra despite make-shift set-ups during the spring. Having proper tools and equipment will encourage them to continue striving for excellence through music.
