My Students

I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students band and chorus daily. I teach beginning band, intermediate band, advanced band, jazz band, and choir.

The jazz band is a traveling performance group that represents our school in the public.

The students are highly energetic and love to show off their skills through performances, concerts, and parades. The music stands we have are 20- 22 years old. They were hand-me-downs from another school. The tops of the stands come off. The stands sway and wobble due to wear and age. Often music books fall off the stand because the screws are stripped and they will not hold the proper angle. This results in music all over the floor and creates a huge disruption during rehearsals as well as performances.

My Project

Imagine being at a performance in the community, and the jazz band is ready to transition to the next song. Instead of hearing my students' beautiful music, you hear "squeak, squeak, squeak" from our old hand-me-down music stands as we are changing position. I would like to provide my students with new music stands that are silent, in good condition, and enough for all musicians to read their music without such disruption.

These new music stands will allow our audiences to focus on our students' amazing musical gifts.

Proper music stands would provide my students with the equipment we need to succeed.
