My students need six xylophone stands to start the new school year.

My Students
Parents in Indiana and across the nation have donated to make an incredible investment in Orff instruments at our school. We now have twenty-eight mallet instruments, but only seven of those have stands. How wonderful it would be if my students could perform standing up rather than sitting down!
I teach nearly 600 kids every week in general and special education classes, kindergarten through fifth grade.
My students love music and thrive through creativity. They don't only reproduce music, they offer ideas and insights that take their music to the next level. They are often given the opportunity to make up their own dance moves, improvise on Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels), and even decide on the form that their pieces will follow. These are students actively enjoying and learning about music, students who are developing a love for music that will follow them the rest of their lives.
My Project
It is my hope to have enough instrument stands for all our xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels by the middle of next year. That way all my students can stand and play with good posture, an important element of music performance that will continue in middle and high school music classes. The ease in transporting instruments to and from programs on wheels is an additional benefit that will keep the instruments protected from being dropped by my kids. I began purchasing stands earlier this year, and with the help of parents like you I was able to buy seven. It is a great start, but because each stand costs nearly $100, I will hope to fund the remaining nineteen stands in three separate DonorsChoose projects.
Growing up I never had the opportunity to play instruments in elementary school.
Instead I came to music class, opened a book, and spent the entire time singing notes and watching movies. Instruments, when added to singing, provide a much more wholistic musical experience for kids, and part of keeping our instruments safe and professional means supplying them with quality stands.
