My Students

I teach 24 fifth grade students that have very different personalities as well as different learning styles. The one thing they have in common is that they all love coming to school and learning!

I believe that with collaborative learning there is an increase in student retention, self-esteem, and responsibility.

My students work collaboratively on a regular basis. Similar to the idea that two heads are better than one, educational researchers have found that through peer instruction, students teach each other by addressing misunderstandings and clarifying misconceptions.

My Project

Standing desks are all the rage in modern offices, and companies like Microsoft and Google are giving their employees the option to work standing up instead of sitting down. What is already a big trend in offices is now slowly making its way into schools. Standing desks are especially good for student collaboration.

Students learn better when they have a chance to work together and traditional seating prevents students to sit close to one another.

By having standing desks available to them, students are given another option of where and how they work in class. Standing desks will also help prepare my students for real life social situations.
