My Students

I have the pleasure of spending my day with 22 energetic, eager and motivated 4th graders. Along with my fabulous TA, we work together to meet all the needs of our students.

We have a very excitable group of children this year.

They love to move throughout the classroom. They enjoy working together to problem solve and share their discoveries. They are learning to become independent thinkers who push themselves through challenges. Our students each have a voice in our classroom community and they all do their part to be inclusive, kind and encouraging.

My Project

This year I decided to remove traditional desks and chairs from my classroom and join the movement of flexible seating. Each day my students have the opportunity to choose from various tables and types of seating based on how they learn best. This independence and opportunity for choice in my classroom has been wonderful for my students!

I have found over the past couple of weeks that many of my students prefer the opportunity to stand while they work.

Many studies have shown that standing desks boost engagement, allow them to be more active, and helps them to get their wiggles out.

By incorporating standing desks into my flexible seating options, I can provide more opportunities for bodily movement throughout the day. All of my students will have the opportunity to try them out as a part of our flexible seating choice and rotation each day.
