I teach an amazing group of third grade students.
They work hard and are eager to learn. Our school is in a rural area and has a high poverty level. With decreasing funding for education it is becoming harder and harder to provide students with the supplies they need and deserve, especially furniture items. These students deserve the best!
My Project
I always encourage my students to work where they feel most comfortable, whether that is sitting, standing, on the floor, etc. as long as they are responsible in getting their work done. We have plenty of places to sit and enough floor space, but my students who prefer to stand are forced to use our one countertop, which is not at an appropriate height to stand with proper posture. These stand-up desks would make a world of difference and give my students a great work space. Studies have shown tremendous benefits to standing while working, especially for students who struggle with attention. I am a huge believer in the importance the classroom environment plays in student learning and these desks would be one way to help make our classroom better!
Funding for this project would make a huge difference for my students on a daily basis.
Classroom furniture is hard to come by with shrinking budgets, so these desks would be an enormous gift to my deserving, hard working kiddos. They would be thrilled to have a high quality stand-up workspace!
