This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a 12:1+1 special education classroom in the South Bronx. Many of my students have learning disabilities. The school is located in a high poverty area.
My students are faced with hardships everyday, yet they come to school eager to learn.
Despite obstacles put in their ways, my students strive to reach their potentials. School is their safe haven where I strive to provide them with all the knowledge I can with the resources that are available to me.
My Project
One of the challenges I see as a Special Education teacher is keeping all students focused on tasks. Many of my students are fidgety, energetic and easily distracted while working. It is quite common for my students to push their seats out, stand up and hunch over their desk to work. I love when they are engaged, but I want them to be comfortable while working.
My special needs students need Alphabetter standing desks to work more comfortably.
These desks will provide more flexibility for my students that do not like to sit while working. Hunching over their short desks is not a solution. I know that my students will love working on standing desks. They will allow comfort for my energetic students who just cannot seem to sit still!
