My Project

My students come from fantastic families, they're kids with many different strengths and challenges. Children arrive in the Fall with a wide range of academic abilities, a variety of physical, emotional and social emotional needs. Over my 26 years of teaching, I've personally witnessed the change in children, need for movement and diverse teaching styles, and how "old school" methods need to be tweaked to help all kids learn and live up to their full potential, especially my students with special needs. This need has been magnified with the challenges we face due to how Covid impacted schools.

Students will naturally gravitate to what makes them the most successful learner that they can be.

Given choice, kids are smart. They know when they feel they are in the right place and when their bodies and minds are ready to learn.

Many students have a hard time staying focused during our long school day. Children ask to sit away from their desk, stand up, or maybe they're just "wiggly" during instruction. I'd like to find a way to help all of my students succeed. Every year brings a new group that challenges me to be the best teacher that I can be!

3rd grade is huge growth year both academically and socially! We step up to more serious reading, writing, mathematics and more, however...

My 8 and 9-year-old students need to move to learn. They need choice in what works best for them personally as a learner. And they are wise enough to make that choice!

Flexible seating allows them to choose the seating option that is most comfortable for them. We currently use Hokki stools, yoga balls, bean bags and other choices in class. Stand-Up Desks will be an amazing addition!
