Stand or Sit, It's Just My Fit!

Help me give my students the option to stand or sit at the drafting desks I have in my classroom. These stools provide an alternative to the traditional seating in most classrooms.

My Students

My students are special needs students in rural Southern Oregon. They have a variety of learning levels but are typically one to two years behind their non-disabled peers under non-Covid circumstances. Right now that gap may have widened. They are also typical teenagers full of excitement, angst, and puberty-driven emotions.

Seeing them make progress in an area of struggle makes the challenges of teaching them worth the effort it often takes.

My colleagues and I often spend our evenings grading, creating lesson plans and/or curriculum, planning/attending meetings, or attending student events.

Our town used to have thriving lumber companies which are now gone. Many families live in poverty and do not have everything they need to support their child’s education at home.

I am new to this school district and need to refurbish my classroom as it is lacking some items that would be helpful.

My Project

Currently I have tables, desks, and drafting tables in my classroom. Some classes are large enough students must use the drafting tables and in other classes they are options that are available.

Students get tired standing up in the hour long classes we have this year; these stools would provide an alternative.

Give students a choice in their learning environment and help them focus instead of thinking about how uncomfortable they are. Students perform best when they have choices about where they work and have their needs met. Covid has changed how students think about their working environment.
