Stand and Speak: Empowering Students' Voices and Confidence Through Debate

Help me give my students research magazines, binders, folders, index cards, highlighters, podiums, and timers to successfully prepare for Speech and Debate competitions.

My Project

I am excited to share that I will be launching a new Speech and Debate class at my middle school this upcoming school year. Traditionally, these courses require a lot of support and funding and aren’t usually available at all schools. Most of my 6th -8th grade students are from low-income household. They are eager to learn and be molded into confident, articulate debaters. Speech and Debate promotes critical thinking, active listening, collaboration, and respectful discourse—skills that are vital for academic success and civic engagement. I need supplies to create an engaging, enriching, and empowering experience for our students.

We need access to research magazines, binders, folders, index cards, highlighters, podiums, timers, and snacks to keep students organized and engaged during extended sessions.

The binders, folders, and highlighters allow for students to organize debate rules, rubrics, curriculum, and speeches and debate research. Podiums, index cards, and timers allow for in class practice and preparation for the Speech and Debate competitions. The snacks serve as both as an incentive and energy for extended sessions.

Any support for this course, not only will directly impact the success of the program but will have a dramatic impact on the lives of my students. Speech and debate programs can be very powerful, transformation tools for middle school students. Please help my students find their confidence and voice through speech and debate.
