This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my crafts and ceramics class experience six different areas of practical arts including books arts, ceramics, mosaics, stained glass, fiber arts and jewelery making/wire art. With limited funding, it is hard to supply enough materials to allow for each student to experiment in each area.

I have two classes of crafts and ceramics which total to around 47 students.

The school is located in a low income area where poverty, hunger and housing is an issue. Although my students are faced with these challenges, they channel out their demographics and focus on expressing themselves through the production of art.

My Project

Students will use the six glass cutting tools and pliers to cut out individual pieces of glass to fit into their stained glass composition. After wrapping each piece of glass with copper foil tape, the solder will be used to attach the pieces of glass together.

Stained glass is an art form that has been around since the year 675 AD!

With limited supplies in my district we have already ran out of solder and only have two sets of glass cutting tools that are used among over filled classes of 24. This project will make a difference by allowing students to experiment with the historic art form of stained glass, creating a unique work that can be displayed at the local art gallery as well as in their own homes for years to come!
