I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students in a school that is filled with diversity and hope. Students are still learning to understand themselves and others. My kids continue to discover approaches to learning that yield successful outcomes. Students are participating in extended learning opportunities to increase learning outcomes. Attendance is a challenge in the midst of the pandemic and some are doing exceptionally well. My school is a Title I school wherein more than 85% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch and more than 50% of the student population are English language learners (the first language is not English). State assessment results are doubt-stirring. The school is located in an area that has its challenges with combating violence and gang activity. Regardless of their situations and circumstances, my students continue to be open-minded and resilient as they move forward in the midst of challenging times.
Many of our students can not afford to attend private dance lessons and uniforms. Our students immediately responded when offered the opportunity to participate on the school dance team. However, the students are unable to escape economic challenges when attempting to acquire the required uniforms.
Participating on the school's dance team will afford students the opportunity to learn exciting concepts of dance while achieving personal growth.
Students will be able to build skill, confidence and self-esteem. Dance uniforms are great for the students because they can look their best while performing with other students. Additionally, they will work as a unified team to build sportsmanship and social skills. First and foremost, it will give all students a chance to be a part of a team, increasing their learning interactions which will enhance the environment.
When you look good, you feel good. This is the concept that will help to increase student confidence and self-esteem.
By donating to our project you will be helping to provide students with dance uniforms to help them look good. Also, your donations will help to introduce them to a new and exciting collaboration efforts aligning fitness and dance concepts. The result of this project will increase self-esteem, confidence and an experience they otherwise can not afford.
