Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am fortunate to be working with 24 incoming kindergartners who bring their own experiences, knowledge, and personalities to school each day to learn, play, and grow. My students are sweet and eager learners who have been faced with many obstacles over the last few years. The Oroville Dam evacuation and Camp Fire were two major events that affected my students and shook our community. On top of those events, my kindergarteners are now facing the challenges and changes that are the outcome of the coronavirus. Despite these events, in addition to the individual challenges many of my students face, these wonderful kids continue to persevere and come to school each day with a positive attitude and outlook.

For many of my students, school is the safest and most consistent place, where they find comfort and stability.

My students attend school in a high poverty area and I find that often their resources are limited. All students qualify for free and reduced lunch. This gentle group of students deserves endless possibilities and my goal is to provide them with a learning environment that encourages academic growth and mindfulness.

My Project

Right now my kindergarten classroom has a variety of tables that are a challenge to sit and work comfortably due to weak legs and wobbly supports. As my students learn essential skills from learning how to properly hold a pencil to practicing communication and small motor skills they need a solid place to work.

My students need new tables that don't wobble as they work to become strong and independent learners!

These young learners need a stable spot to explore and play as they challenge themselves to do things like build letters from Play-Doh snakes and work to eventually write stories!
