As emotional support students, the impact of school being closed is taking the one constant from many of my students’ lives. I want to be able to share with them materials that will help them process their emotions during this time. In school, we have resources like books and games to help them learn through reading and play. Since we left school thinking we would return in two weeks, those items remain in school. We continue to have morning meetings to help the kids process their emotions, but I would like to be able to read them books that could be a jumping point for discussion.
My Project
The materials requested will be used through our distant learning morning meetings to help my students process their emotions at this time.
For many of my students our “school family” is the only real stability they have, and the only safe place to work through their feelings.
With the unexpected closing of school, I am trying to help my kids adjust to this new normal. Part of this includes having daily check-in’s where I try and create a space that the kids can process. These items will aide in this quest to provide some normalcy.
