Stability in a World of Craziness

Help me give my students stability and continuity in a crazy world where the school day is consistently different.

My Students

The students I work with are from a rural mill town where business has not been booming lately. Poverty levels are high and aspirations are low. Our school budget took 5 tries before it passed for last school year and any "extras" like books and supplies are the first things cut.

The students in my classes have emotional, intellectual, and learning disabilities, which prevent them from being successful in many regular high school classes, let alone in the remote classroom setting.

Once they come to school/zoom into class I need to not only teach them but make them want to come back the next day. This happens through support, honesty, and trust. Any help would be much appreciated!

My Project

Over the years, the team working in my classroom has worked hard to build a safe space for our students. Part of this is through building strong relationships and providing a comfortable environment that all students feel welcomed in.

Unfortunately, because of regulations caused by COVID-19, we have had to remove a lot of what makes our environment special.

New barstools that can easily be cleaned will help provide the comfortable seating the students miss. Ear buds would be available for any students who need it. When we are learning remotely, a new monitor and keyboard would help me provide a more comfortable, stable environment to share with my students. School supplies like paper clips and rubber bands will help students and staff stay organized no matter their location.
