My students need fun and exciting Read Alouds that fit in with our curriculum. My students also need stability balls to be able to wiggle and learn at the same time.
My Second Grade students are diverse in culture, ethnicity, enthusiasm toward reading, and energy levels. My Second Graders come from varied backgrounds, have different levels of previous knowledge, and have different levels of motivation for reading and for academics in general. As a school, we're at 40% free/reduced lunch. I have a high energy group that has a strong will to learn and a curiosity about how things work but often has a challenging time remaining completely still in a regular seat.
My Project
STEM Read Alouds to get my students interested in Science and Math in an interactive way. These books fit in with our curriculum and can help expand my second graders' schema.
Stability balls allow students to wiggle and learn at the same time.
I currently have 8 balls in my classroom and they are working so well that I'm asking for 4 more. These stability balls allow students to remain focused since we do not have recess until the end of the day. They can expend energy and learn at the same time. Students are enjoying the change in our classroom.
