My Students

My science classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. Students spend this year laying the foundation for many science concepts. They are full of knowledge and curiosity.

All of the students that I teach receive free breakfast.

My students are intelligent. They love to work on projects to prove their knowledge on a particular topic. They think outside of the box and express a desire to learn more. However, many do not have the resources to do just that.

My Project

At the end of the year students are prepping for their 5th grade Science STAAR test. The way our schedule falls, this test comes the week before school is out. To help my students stay focused, I created a 3 to 4-week long STAAR review. I call this STAAR Survivor. Just like in the show, my students are grouped up in tribes and must complete various challenges to earn points and immunity.

In the immunity challenges, students must apply their knowledge of topics to hands-on activities.

I have requested, sheet protectors to keep everything organized, fossils to mine up, a lazer maze for students to show reflection, foam marshmallows and a cooker tubs for students to change the relative density of an object, bandanas for tribes to wear, colored cardstock for puzzle pieces, and latch boxes to store all of the materials in!
